| After someone has been badly hurt from a crash, natural disaster, fight, ect... Doctors need to heal them. The first step is to clean out the wounds and lower the swelling. After that the doctor will examine the patient to see if surgery or any other nessesarry care is needed. In a situation like this there is a number of enzymes to use that will clean out the wounds and stop the swelling. Some of the enzymes used to clean out a wound are Papain, trypsin and chymotrypsin. Theese enzymes work on cleaning out a wound by dissolving all of the tissues that are dirty. This then also allows the wounds to heal faster. More popular enzymes that are used are streptokinase and streptodornase which are microbacterial enzymes that are usually combined with each other to stop swelling. Theese types of enzymes are given in a pill form and when ingested will go to where ever the swelling is or the place where the blood is clotting. This enzyme then dissovles the protiens so that it is no longer a solid. Talking about blood clots. Sometimes people get blood clots in their arteries and viens. This is bad because is prevents blood from getting to other parts of the body. The enzyme Urokinase is then used to dissolve the blood clot. Urokinase has been found in human Urine and is processed out of it. Though this process costs 1000 bucks each time The enzyme is able to save the loss of a limb or a life. Another enzyme that has been foud that would do the same job is Desmokynase. Desmokynase is found in the saliva of vampire bats. Unfortuantly though this enzyme is not used do to the scarcity of the bat syliva availible. Have you ever wondered if their was some magical chemical or formula to prevent tooth decay and keep your teeth white. In the field of dentistry scientists have discovered a way to prevent tooth decay by the romoval of Dextran. Dextran is the sticky adhesive that bacteria use to attach themselves to the teeth. Scientists have discovered a enzyme that breaks the bond between the tooth and the dextran. the enyme is called dextranase. Another medical breakthrough in the medical field is against the fight of cancer. The enzyme asparaginase is used in medicine to break down the amino acid called asparagine. The theory behind it is that every cell need the amino acid asparagine, but the cancerous cells can't make it themselve so they get it from other cells. When the enyme Asparaginase is used it will break down the Asparagine in the blood and the cancerous cells will die because they cant get the proper amount of Asparagine. |
