TIPS ON MAINTAINING A HEALTHY COMPUTER

 

Just like your car your computer need preventive maintenance.  In your car you change the oil every 3000 miles.  Well with your computer you should run an anti-virus scan once a week  The following are some tips on maintaining your computer health.

- Back-up your file on a regular basis.  You can use a program such as Norton Ghost to make a copy of your hard drive, or just burn your personal files to a CD-RW.

- Buy an UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) These are also commonly called battery back-ups.  They are used incase of power failure your computer will remain on long enough for you to properly shut it down.  Many come with a warning buzzer to let you know when the battery is low.  You can also get ones that will shut down your computer for you incase of power loss.  These usually cost $60-$100.

- Cleaning your computer is one of the most over looked areas.  Not only does it make it look better put it will prevent overheating thus extending the life of your computer.  For tips on how to clean your computer check out my cleaning tips section.  Cleaning Tips

- Weekly clearing of temporary files, virus and spy-ware scans, and defrag.  These all will help with the speed of your computer.  Over time your computer picks up a lot of junk.  It is good to do some cleaning before it piles up.  For tips on how to do these task click the links below

- Firewalls - If you are using any type on internet connection other than dial-up you need a firewall.  These are programs designed to keep the bad guys off your computer.  For more info on firewall click here
