Experimentation

Animal testing is cruel and unnecessary torture. Animals have substances, such as shaving cream, pumped into their stomaches and poured into their eyes. This is all done so that people can have a new product in the stores. Millions of animals have their lives taken every year in the name of product testing.

There are many alternatives to animal testing such as human tissue samples, computer models, petri dish studies, cadaver studies, artifical skin, and a light addressable potentiometric sensor. The reasons that a lot of companies donot use these methods is because it is cheaper to kill and torture animals. What gives any person the right to put a monetary value on the life of an animal?

Animal testing is inaccurate. There have been many cases to support this. Opren was tested on animals and found safe, but when taken by people it caused eye, skin, liver, and kidney damage. Seventy people died after taking this 'safe' drug. The drug clinoquinal was also found safe. After it was marketed it caused 30,000 cases of blindness, paralysis, and even death in some cases. Since animals systems are so different how can we find animal testing to be so reliable and accurate?

POINTS ABOUT ANIMAL TESTING
  • Experiments are conducted where they sever the nerves of monkey's spines, arms and legs and then torment them by forcing them to use their crippled limbs, burning them with cigarette lighters, pinching them with surgical pliers, cutting off their hands for ashtrays, exposing muscle tissue.
  • It was exhhaustive animal testing that gave doctors confidence in Thalimimomide which produced grotesque birth defects in humans.
  • tests are so painful animals break their necks trying to escape.
  • simulations and computer models are more useful teaching tools, scientists can test potential anti-cancer drugs on human cancer cells, vaccines can be produced in cell cultures rather than animals.
  • some exerps from an ex-workers diary (who blew the whistle on her company) is:
Technicians laughed while they put...shaving cream...in rabbit's eyes and callously force-fed...deoderant to animals in death tests...Regardless of whether or not the rabbit was dead, they would throw it approximately ten feet into a pile...many rabbits would still be crawling...on top of the dead and other dying rabbits...Blood was coming out of some of their mouths; others were convulsing and having spasms
  • Animals are so terrified of tests that they bite their fingers off and self-mutilate themselves.
    And that's just the beginning..........
