NEW! See photo below of Susan's sister, Amanda Jane Matthews Franklin. My paternal grandfather's parents met in Taney County, MO and were married and remained there for 13 years, before moving west to Texas. Within a year after their move, Susan Jackson developed tuberculosis, after taking care of a family member with the disease. She died a short time later. Less than a year after her death, Samuel succumbed to the same illness, leaving 6 orphaned children. The two oldest boys, ages 13 and 14 --- my grandfather one of them --- began working and taking care of themselves. The 4 younger children were separated and sent to live with friends and neighbors in Denton and Dallas Counties. They all stayed in contact with each other, however, and remained close throughout their lives. ~~~~~~~~~ Thanks to the kindness of fellow Taney County researchers, Vicki and Rosemary, I've finally (finally!) found out where my g-grandmother, Susan, is buried. I still don't know the burial place of Samuel, but Rosemary found a listing for Susan in Oak Grove Cemetery, Denton County, Texas. This means so much to me, I appreciate your help more than I can say. (Rosemary, also, found a listing for my g-grandfather Cain in Denton County!) |
