Roy as a young man!
[Roy

"Smitty" served as one of the original members of our fire department and served as assistant fire chief.
He was an original member of the life squad, for both the V.F.W. and the village.

Roy as Santa!
[Roy

"Smitty" was our "official" Santa Claus more than 30 years!
He made toys in his workshop for many of the children he visited.
He never accepted pay, but was rewarded with the happiness he shared with young and old alike. He visited schools, churches, organizations and private homes at Christmas.
"Smitty" was a warm jolly man who truly cared about his community and it's people.
He was inducted into the "Society of Honored Citizens" in 1988, in consideration of his faithful and devoted service, and with deepest appreciation and thanks from the our city council.
