I was pleasantly surprised when I got to the show and found out that not only was it John doe, but he had D.J. Bonebrake with him.  Don't get me wrong, I still did not expect this to be a repeat of the X concert just a couple months ago.  John shared a few stories with us between songs.  He was the perfect entertainer.  He played almost every song from the new album.  And, unlike most bands, did not play anything off of his prior solo album.  Also, true to form, he did not play any X material either.  This was John Doe all the way.  The small club that he played gave a feeling of intimacy that worked so perfectly with the mood of the show.  You could almost imagine that you and the band were the only people in the room, and not in a room filled with others.  ©1995 Krusty
The Lazy Cowgirls - Uptown Bar (Minneapolis, MN)
November 30, 1995
After spending most Thursday nights at the Uptown Bar in Minneapolis listening to relatively unknown puff-ball bands, this night was more than a welcome change.  I'm usually there just to have a few drinks with some friends, but this night was different.  As I was waiting for my friends to show up, I saw a lot of other people that I know.  I started to wonder what was going on, since these people ordinarily would not be caught dead in this bar on a Thursday night.  At this time, I finally decided to see who was playing tonight.  The Cosmic Psychos with The Lazy Cowgirls.  Now things started to make sense.  As soon as The Lazy Cowgirls started to play, that was the end of my 'relaxing' night.  All of a sudden, I couldn't hear my friends talking and I couldn't sit still.  I felt myself moving toward the stage.  With cold weather having settled over Minnesota, punk rock concerts are few and far between.  This show came just when I needed it most.  All of my frustrations (from that wonderful office job that pays for this shit) were lifted away by the pure energy of this show.  When The Lazy Cowgirls were done, the audience had not had enough.  They wanted them to take over The Cosmic Psychos' set too.  And to tell you the truth, it sounded like a really good idea.  ©1995 Krusty
