Iggy Pop - First Avenue (Minneapolis, MN)
April 17, 1996
I have been trying to figure out a way to describe one of the most awe-inspiring shows I have ever seen, and I'm not having much luck.  Seeing Iggy Pop was like seeing a god.  And in a way he is.  I mean, he was one of the founders of what we now know as punk rock.  When he first walked out onto the stage, my mouth dropped, and I couldn't move.  Most of the reviews I have read about Iggy's shows this year have been comparing them to the way they used to be.  Well, I won't do that, I can't do that, I am not old enough.  Iggy has never been one to be separated from the audience.  He proved this, by being out on the audience and later inviting them on stage with him.  I have seen a lot of shows, but few even came close to this.  I felt like I was taking a step back in time.  I was finally able to see what so many people had seen before me.  There just don't seem to be any words that even come close to describing what I experienced that night.  The backing musicians, however, did not seem to give Iggy the support that he deserves.  I'm not saying that they should overshadow him, but they faded way too far into the background.  Performing songs that spanned his entire career, Iggy was showing all of us where he came from and where he is at now.  He has come a long way, and been through more than most of us could ever imagine.  It shows in everything he does.  His stage presence just commands your full attention.  There is nothing this man will not do.  He will have your attention, and he will not stop until he gets it.  This is a man that spawned a lot of the bands that are out there now.  But, they still have a lot to learn from him.  This is a man that is in his late forties and is able to outperform any of them.  I guess maybe I am biased, because I firmly believe that no matter what comes out now, something is missing.  Iggy Pop has that something, and he lets everyone know it.  Every song is a story in and of itself.  But, when they are put together, a life unfolds before your ears.  And what a life it is.  ©1996 Krusty
The Loudmouths -- Turf Club (Saint Paul, MN)
June 11, 1996
After three hours of nothing but shit, The Loudmouths stormed the stage and breathed life into me.  Loud, fast, and full of energy.  There is really no other way to describe this band.  When they weren't singing the sarcastic and rude comments that spewed from their mouths just didn't stop.  There were drawbacks to the show:  it wasn't their crowd, the bar sucked, and the sound was even worse.  A friend of mine copied their album for me and told me I had to go.  Another friend called me the night before the show and told me I had to go.  Will I ever trust these friends again?  Hell yeah!  And I think you can trust me when I tell you to check out The Loudmouths when they come to your town.  ©1996 Krusty
