Update! It's been two years!! This spring we had a successful lambing. Shearing went well.  Everyone is fine. We have eight old dogs living with us now. I keep changing my mind about the number of sheep to keep. We still haven't eaten anyone.  I have a job  at Old Navy.
We've been here almost a year! Thanksgiving was special at the farm as all the Abel boys were home. Christmas was quiet. I did decorate four Christmas trees. In mid December we added four more bred ewes to the herd. The first two weeks of '07 were unseasonably warm. I took Donald to an AHBA trial on the 13 &14th.  The weather turned cold soon after that and I started bringing the sheep to the barn every evening and offering hay. Our first ewe to deliver had a bad time and both her lambs, a ewe first and then a ram, were born dead. I was crushed. The following Saturday morning second ewe delivered a healthy baby outside in the snow! From that point on lambs came twice a week for a month.  I'm still waiting on one ewe as of April 22... We have seven ewe lambs and seven ram lambs.  In March I started shearing. I bought Fiscars quilter's shears and a hand sharpener. It took several days, but all have short haircuts and are wearing Rocky sheep covers to protect the wool this year. The burdocks are still a problem but I am determined that no burdock will set a seed head this year. So there. More big news...Jason is headed to Clemson, Justin to JMU!
