TAPS

Day is done, gone the sun,
From the lakes, from the hills, from the skies,
All is well, safely rest.
God is nigh.

Then good night, peaceful night,
Till the light of the dawn shineth bright,
God is near, do not fear
Friend, good night.

Sleep Softly Now

Sleep softly now under your stone
War had its way with you
Death with a will all of its own
Has scythed down your youth.

The past a small handful of ashes,
The dreams a memory.
In the dusk, under the stars,
Remember our sweet sunsets.

The tumbling sea will call your name,
For all eternity.
She was a lover's last embrace,
And washed away your pain.

War, and the blood of man,
Is what our freedom cost.
Redeemed will be the forests, free
The birds, the beasts, the men.

Will they remember ages after
The reason you are here,
And how you gave your life, so they
Could love and laugh again?

Your stone now gleams in moonlight's bower,
So cold and hard to touch.
Will there be sun and warmth tomorrow
While you're alone and cold?

May birds again rise to the sun
While time for you stands still
May your sleep be peaceful now
That you rest in GOD's will.
