what inspires your songs? Preston - Well, from a lyrical standpoint I'm inspired by growing up. You Know? Stories of past experiences and falling in love or the occasional song of serial homicide. I try to steer away from writing opinionated music. Unless it's about hating cops. Yeah, I hate cops. For how our music is inspired, it's really not. When we put together a song we hardly talk about it, we just have a really tight vibe. We really play well off each other I think. We each have a very personal connection with each song in that way. Jeff - Our Porno Wal. That, and the total excitement we get when we come up with new ideas. We all just feel each song and collectivley take it in our own directions. We feed off of each others energy a lot. In the end it sounds like our respective instruments are gettin nasty with eachother. you know? Gettin it on'. Its those spontaneous vibes we have that end up making songs that take you to all kinds of fucked up places. (...and by fucked up places I don't mean Saskatoon.) What is the best concert you have been too? Preston - Lately, I'd have to say the Face to Face/Thrice/Movielife/Midtown show at the Phoenix. That was fun. Jeff - Either one of many amazing Face to Face shows I've seen, or The Crue's Greatest Hits Tour in the Skatch. That thing was completley outta hand. Debaucherey at its finest. The Wild Side indeed! What are some other bands that people should listen too? Preston - Well a few bands out of Saskatoon, Sask. are deadly. Check out DFA, Poser Disposer, and Richard Marshal Division. From Toronto I really like No Warning, The Swarm(RIP), Left For Dead(RIP), Forever Comes Crashing, Flashlight Brown and Alexisonfire. Jeff - 2 bands that I hold really high right now are Thrice and Alkaline Trio. Both bands have wicked new records, and both I think will become increasingly huge...and rightfully so. Outstanding songwriters. Some bands off the top of my head would be, Face to Face, Rival Schools, No Knife, Sparta, Frodus, ISIS, Letter Kills, Story Of The Year, The Used, Alexisonfire, FCC, Motley Crue, Judas, BARSE. Canada hasnt really been known for one specific music scene, (ie Southern California) How would u describe the music world that you are involved with? Preston - Canada is a music scene. Good bands are everywhere. Propagandhi's from Winnipeg! Have you been to Winnipeg? It Sucks! Jeff - Its all over the place. There is so much talent in this country. But of course with all the talent there are also a lot of people I wanna have clipped... "wake up, break up, n' break up, n' make up, n' break up, then wake up" .... like seriously canada? what the shit is that? ...seriously! ...??? Where can people find your music? Preston - In the flames of burning skyscrapers, over the loudspeakers of disrupt schools, on the stereos of stolen cars, or on www.mp3.com/aninsidejob. Talk to us at the shows. We'll hook you up. Jeff - Best chance is either: your sisters sock drawer, at one of our shows, or mp3.com. Some new stuff is coming real soon. Lookout!! We are about to unleash the beast. And this beast....well its damn evil. and loud. Nice and loud!!!! What do you think of FCC? Preston - I've had a lot of fun playing shows and getting drunk with FCC. They're an entertaining bunch and play catchy-as-fuck tunes. We all appreciate their support. Jeff - Those bastards are top notch. Many a good time has been shared with those cats. Its just too bad that I could drink anyone of them under the table at any given time!! ... ya thats right! ...what?? ...what?? One final question, are you guys proud to be a Canadian band? Preston - Personally, If that makes me a nationalist? Meh? But I still love Dayglow Abortions. "Pass Me Another Beer!" Jeff - If you mean do we play O' Canada at practice? No. Did I used to have Gretzky Posters on my walls growing up? Absolutley!! Go check them out on mp3.com! |
