This interview we did with a band from B.C who are AMAZING. So if you've never heard of them go to there site NOW!!!! First of all why don't you introduce us to all the members and what there purpose in the band is? There are 7 of us so this may take a minute.....hold on i have to attach my prosthetic arm with the typing fingers instead of the hook......HERE WE GO.....Shaun Frank shouting the lead vocals, Ryan Rockstar strumming the guits, Adam plucking bass, Lammy Lee smashing the drums, Jonny Fromage and his sliding trombone, Chonger tooting the trumpet, and Jordan honking the sax. How did ya come up with your band name? We came up with Crowned King when we all met in prison..... Why did you get involved in music, and more specifically the genre of music you are in? What drew you to it? We all grew up here in North Vancouver and went to the same high school (Argyle Secondary School - home of the priest..... you know, Jason Priestley) Anyways, we all turned out to be band geeks in jazz band and decided that we should start a band with horns. Most of the guys were listening to punk rock in the beginning, so we decided to play a little punk and a little ska and now just a whole lot of ROCK..... Any plans for a video, or another Cd? We have made a video for Don't Wanna Go a song we recorded about a year ago. It hasn't been released yet but it will be when the album is finished. We are currently finishing writing and recording the brand ass new album which is yet to be named. What are your tour plans for the next little while? Any Canadian dates coming up? There are no plans for tour as of yet. We hope to be playing Warped Tour 2003 again this year in Vancouver and Calgary as we have the last 2 years. I'm only starting rumours here though. Those shows aren't confirmed yet. If you had to describe your live show, what 2 words would you use? TRIUMPHANT and FUN What Cd is in each of your cd players right now? Since there are 7 of us there would be way too many to write. Everyone's discman has something different in it every day. I guess I could leak some of the favorites....Foo Fighters - All My Life, Red Hot Chilli Peppers - By The Way, Hot Water Music - Caution, U2 - Any Album. What bands have influence you? Once again there are way too many to list......We are more influenced by live shows of bands we've opened for. Fishbone for example have taught us a lot about live shows just by us watching them rock. What is your fave song of all time? You will get a different answer each day of the week for each of us. That means there are way too many to write here. How has the emergence of Canadian artists impacted you? Has it made it easier (more labels taking on cnd artists) or harder (more harsh comparisons)? It's great to see Canadian bands starting to make more of an impact on "America". It definitely has the labels in the USA looking up here for talent..... however, this doesn't make it easier to make it in the music industry. It all comes down to whether you have good songs or not. It takes a lot of hard work and persistence. Touring with bands The Sums :P who have a more established fan base, do you feel that you gain more fans from these shows? If so do you like this following or would you rather search for your own? You will always gain more fans from playing larger shows. We're totally stoked about playing those shows. We want the most people possible to hear our songs and have a chance to like our music. Searching for your own following is definitely the more difficult route but it has been done. In a way we're trying to do that just on a larger scale. We want our new fans to come to the next show when we are headlining a small venue. These always make for the best shows. |
