Missy's Attempt to Shut Me Up About an Article
We came up with an idea, for an article to ask people opinions about, how everyone has been catorgizing punk lately. Well before I get to everyone elses opinions I'll tell you mine, personally, I think its pointless, now thats just MY opinion, so am not saying everyone elses is wrong. The reason I think its pointless, is because why should we get to judge other people on there looks, styles of music, and etc......., I just don't see the point. When I was at a Good Charlotte/Simple Plan concert, I agreeed with something AutoPilot off said, "Punk is about 2 things Friends and Music". Well thats MY own opinion, and here's some other opinions we asked from people:

I think that people only catagorize when they question their own identity. They aren't sure where they fit so they create this catagory and it's requirements for themselves. True punk doesn't care if people think it is punk.

Real punks dont label themselves so whats the point, right?

Sarah Bruiser1131@aol.com

One of the main viewpoints of punk is that labels are useless. So to categorize punk and at the same time say that YOU are punk is being a living oxymoron.

Emily, bizzychimp@yahoo.com

well my opinion is just to say that it's kind of weird to categorize punk... i mean people put Avril Lavigne in punk.... but did u hear her last song ??? it's so f*cking pop... but like nfg, they arent the genuine punk... they have catchy tunes which arent always known to punk... that why they are in the pop-punk category. but there are real good punk bands out there which are really hardcore.

eveester@yahoo.com

It depends on what you're trying to call punk. If it's that whiny-voiced pop stuff they play everywhere, that ain't nothing close to punk. NFG, B-182, Boxcar Racer, Jimmy Eat World... and such other POP bands ruin the culture by claiming to be a part of it. There are a few, but very few, bands who deserve the title of punk-pop, like early Green Day. The rest of 'em fall into hardcore and and other types of punk, but not pure punk. People seem to forget that punk was a movement for the individual (pre-Hot Topic of course) and, therefore can only be attributed to the individuals who started it, namely Joey, Johnny, C.J., Marky, Ritchie, and Dee Dee Ramone. Punk music kind of went away when they did, but shreds of punk culture are still prevalent. I just hope people can be more cautious about the word punk. I mean, I've heard that avril lavingne has decided to call herself the princess of punk. How dare she!? Princess implies monarchy, mona! rchy implies government, and government goes against the fundemental punk priciple of anarchy. If you wanna hear some good punk-pop, check out Bad Religion, Pennywise, Green Day, NoFX, and numerous other bands.

Yea... I hate how some people think the world revolves around "punk". There's only one thing, "punk". there's only one thought, "punk". there's only one kind of attire though it is argued that it is not "punk". You can only listen to one type of music "punk".

Real punks are ok though.. The ones that grew up during the time it all started and a few years after that.

While I do think that there are definitely different styles of punk, I don't really care if they're categorized or not. I don't necessarily think that it's a good or a bad thing. Well, hope this is helpful for your article!

"I think we kinda need to categorize some punk being that a lot of it is so different. We have pop-punk, emo, hardcore, then so many different varieties within those. Not everybody respects everyone else's type of punk, which is why we tend to categorize them. "

-Bridgette from MI

hey the answer to your poll question is this...i think
punk is a great thing. i love punk music. i love the
way punk looks too. i also think that people who are
punk are looked down upon very much so.i don't know if
you could add that to your poll thing somehow or not
but i just don't think its right how people look at
punk people and just think that they are bad people. a
look isn't everything.

shelly92441@yahoo.com

i think it's horrible how people still catorgorize/steriotype other people. everyone should just get over the fact that not everyone is the same and just because teens dress in black and wear spike belts etc. they shouldn't be looked at as freaks or anything other than humans.

riotgirl187@aol.com

My views on people catorgizing punk; I think it's just plain stupid. I mean punk is punk no matter what kind it is. Emo punk, hard punk, pop punk..it ALL ends in punk. Punk is punk to me. I mean if you really are a punk, then you wouldn't even care. And for the poll I chose #1. That's my view.

Jenn, StarGirl32904@aol.com

why do u want to categorize things? its like labeling something, and its bad. i hope no one cares, but i guess some people do care what there 'labeled' as, adn they usually try to hard. i dont care about punk today. its all gone to hell, and people are tryin to revamp it all.

Now, remember these are just want people think, take it or leave it!!
