Punk Goes Pop? | ||||
Not the music literally, but standing at a concert watching NBC rock out the audience reminded me of that of a Backstreet Boy/ Nsync show with the fans slightly older and still as immature. Before I go into my rant I would like to congraulate both SP and NBC for maintaining good moods and attitudes towards the entire process. "PIERRE! YOU ARE SO F***ING HOTT!" These rang out beside me from a girl who looked somewhat like a copy-cat Britney Spears, the tummy hainging out of the tiny shirt, and just about everything else. Now I don't disagree with this statement, but it is not why I went to the concert, and it definately isn't what i wanted to hear ringing in my years for over an hour, I planned on listening to some of my favourite music. There were also comments hurled towards the stage, concerning what the Britney beside me wanted to to to Pierre, but repeating them would be pointless. And that was not even the worst part of the entire experience. During Not By Choice I felt like I was smack dab in the middle of a boy band concert (how appropriate that my parents radio station just started playing As Long As You Love Me?) the grabbing of all Not By Choice members, and the reaching to touch them, even when I was 12 and attending 98 degrees concerts, that looked stupid and dumb. I mean they are just people, like you or me or my uncle Chuck, nothing amazingly special. Sure they are talented and play really great music, but they are not God's or anything. My question, why do people do this? I don't understand why you would spend money on a concert, to go see some one hot, if you were going to scream how hot he is instead of listening to the music? Obviously the music isn't a priority, or they would try to listen to the msuic, instead of destroying it for everyone else. I do not understand this. Though this is kind of embarrasing to admit, every concert I've been to I went cause I liked the music, 98 degrees, The Moffatts, Christina Aguelira and various others, I never went to a concert to see 'the hot lead singer in the opening act!' I'm disappointed in the way the concerts are starting to turn into backstreet boy parodies. I am glad to be rid of Pop music, and now the fans who haven't grown up are following to this genre, and I am slightly confused in people's motivations. |
