Cheneyville
We would always have to stop in Cheneyville. During the 60's it was the place to find antiques. Well, you've seen where they came from. Now, there is not much happening in Cheneyville, at least on the main drag, US 71. Entering the town I saw this central Louisiana beauty on the left. I have two pictures of it. One shows more of the oak, but I wanted you to see the wrap around porch. Windows could be opened without fear of the daily rainstorms blowing in. You could sleep on the porch if it got too hot.
Another fine old building, the curtains were painted on. For sale and vacant.
So, what gives? What is so special about the picture, below? I know. This is where the old guys would play dominoes all day. There would always be fellas out here when we'd pass by.
I turned down into a neighborhood. Once a fine neighborhood.
Across the street and down a ways another home was doing just fine. All was perfect there. The classic Louisiana garden was looking proud. Okra, tomatoes, banana peppers, bell peppers, string beans, cucumber and more.
Then, I saw the neighborhood church I did not see any sign depicting its denomination. I don't think it was active.
I  rode out to the old 1800's Episcopal church that is behind Cheneyville accidently. I got staightened out and headed toward Alexandria. I was dehydrating and turned down this side road to get a drink. There was another historical home. No sign or placque was out front. It was a private residence.

    A visitor, June, offered this:
"I forgot to add that the white church on Klock Street in Cheneyville is the Christian Church. They originally broke away from Beulah Baptist in the 1840s. I believe it was over the issue of predestination although I'm not positive. The original Christian Church site is across the bayou in the graveyard next to Trinity Episcopal Church, the one with all the old graves and huge oak trees. The only thing left is the 4 columns. I don't know what happened to the original church, but the "new" Christian Church is the one on Klock Street".
