I was now in the swamp. This is the view from the road.
An opening provided this view of the hidden bayou, Gorgeous.
Two signs of the of the oil industry. The obvious written one and this canal. It was a necessary evil for the oil rigs to be located where they were needed. It is now the reason we are losing 60 square miles of marsh, yearly.
At the end of the road I found the prize of the day. This is the Burns Recreational Area. It  has a small "parking lot like" campground for RV's, a small playground, picnic area and boat launch. I should have talked to the people in the office but I didn't feel like it.
You'd know a lot more if I wasn't so lazy.
Scene to the left of the tree. Notice the boat. and the ladder going to the water, no beach.
Scene to the right of the tree. The pier is part of the boat launch. The dead trees and drift wood were a reminder of how this place can be very dangerous in storms.
The playground and picnic area which I visited, drank a coke and ate 2 peanut butter sandwitches. That's about it. Next time, the folding chair comes on the back of the bike. I need to write this stuff  "on site". Memory's going.
        That's an excuse, anyway.
I have a page started about the trip back, which got even better, but, you can't see it right now since I haven't written anything. So, back to the Terminal you go, Later

This button takes you to a map of the trip.
Next winter, when you need some green, come back.  I have actually had request for a green picture.  I understand. There's a lot of brown here, also.
If you like roaming the swamp and marsh in search for that illusive view of the Gulf, like I do, then these articles will continue the adventure with that reward..  The trip to Cypremort Point was my first, and the  trip into the wilds and Highway 82 was the second. I really enjoyed both.
Vermillion's Mouth was not successful as far as finding the Gulf, but it did yield an interesting area hidden off the beaten path. I guess that goes for most of the places I write about.
But, it has NEW INFO. All the mysteries have been solved. Don't miss this dramatic conclusion.
New Addition to this article. Garden City. Garden City and the Garden City Store is where I spent the rest of the afternoon. Click "next to continue this trip. All those other ride are available from the Home Page. So not to worry cher.
