And, facilities are available. Just kidding. There is another information center here that will tell you all about everything. But, you are not through. After you are finished here, it is time to go to the big house.. It is magnificent. You will have to visit. My little pictures are worthless in conveying the feel which it has. It was built at the beginning of the 1800's and has survived so much. There is a very old Oak sitting in the front yard. Estimated in the multiple hundreds of years old. Getting the picture? Put a trip to St. Martinville and Longfellow-Evangeline on your list of great Louisiana Getaways. Bring extra film.
can be accessed from the Welcome Center or from the road we were just on. As there, this is self-guided.
Tourist, or from here, this is the best deal in the area to get the essence of local history. The big plantations are great. But, to me, they seem like thoroughfares. Here, it is quiet. The guide will talk to you, and give just you the 30 minute tour of the home. It is the place to start your visit. It cost two dollars to get into the park and that is the last money you have to spend. What a deal. Over 65, it's free.
