The other main performance 125's sold in the UK market are the Aprilia RS125R and the Cagiva Mito. Both are faster and offer  more power - but at a price.

Aprilia RS125(R)

Price: (New,Used)

£3899,£2500-£2000

Power: (Claimed)

34bhp@11000rpm

Insurance Group:

NU7

Transmission:

6 - speed

Weight:

115kg

Engine Type:

L/C, 2T, Single

Positive Points:

Best In Its Class, Build quality is very high, lots of tuning products available (can reach the 120's this way!), handling. 120 section front trye, banana alloy swing arm, 40mm adjustable forks. Performance. Will out perform any Nsr.

Negative Points:

Expensive To Buy (new and used) and run. Requires premium quality oil and regular piston and ring changes, combined with painstaking servicing. Some question the looks. Thus the owner pays for the speed in the long run.

CAGIVA MITO

Price: (New,Used)

£3999,£2000 - £1500

Power: (Claimed)

31bhp@11000rpm

Insurance Group:

NU7

Transmission:

7 - speed

Weight:

121kg

Engine Type:

L/C, 2T, Single

Positive Points:

Ducati 996 looks, out poses other 125's easily, very fast (100mph +) once derestricted, handles well, unique severn speed gearbox, chassis, brakes.

Negative Points:

Very impressive once parked up, less so once you rev the engine. Needs to be warmed up religiously to avoid seizures, needs regular supply of best quality 2T oil to prevent engine problems and regular piston and  ring changes. As with the Aprilia, the bike is so expensive to buy, owners tend to cut costs in areas such as the latter. Hard to tune as the engine so highly tuned in its original state.
