What the hell is twowheelwandering? |
The 'What' and 'How' are the easy bits to explain – I'm an Aussie, living in Vancouver, Canada; I intend to ride my KLR650 motorcycle from here back to Australia. The bike's name is Cabby : short for Caballo de Acero, literally Iron Horse, a term Spanish speaking countries used to call motorcycles in the 50's. Cabby is named in honour of my first long bike trip, a jaunt down to Central America from Vancouver; Iron Horse she truly is. |

I originally intended to visit North Africa, then head north as the weather cleared to cross Eastern Europe, then into Russia, down into the countries of the Former Soviet Union, and through Pakistan and India, and then as much of Asia as my budget would let me. Sept 11th sank that plan....I'll now travel across the full length of the Russia, arriving in Vladivostock before the snow flies. From there...well, lets just get across Russia, shall we? If there is anything still rattling around in the piggybank, I'll try to get to Asia, then on to Australia. |
Why? That's harder. I'm not totally sure myself. It has something to do with wanting to see the world, but not through a bus window. It has something to do with being restless. It has something to do with looking for my own answers to the Big Questions, and not finding them on a television, a billboard, or department store. It has something to do with the fact that we are each given a short time on this earth, to use or squander as we choose, and that at the end of the day, our material possessions fade behind us, and all we truly have is this moment we are in. For me, it's the journey, not the destination, and experience is everything. |
In a nutshell, that's the 'what' and the 'how'. |

There's a bunch of stuff on this site, updates on my fortunes or otherwise, details on the bike, pics from the road, and some of my thoughts and musings as I work my way around the world. Poke around and see if there's something that whets your whizzer. Please make a point of checking out my friends and sponsors page. This is a list of people and companies that have helped me a little, or a lot, and without whom this dream would not have been realized…thanks to all of you. Whoever you are, wherever you are, take care of yourself and the ones you love; have fun, don't take anything too seriously, and keep the rubber side down. Rich Kickbush |
