DFW & Surrounding Area Lake Analysis
I have been fishing the area lakes in and around the DFW area pretty much my whole life.  Below are my thoughts on the some of them, as well as other pertenient information that you may find valuable.
Lake:  Ray Hubbard
Ranking:  My favorite
Notes:  I have been fishing Ray Hubbard since 1990.  This lake is a real sleeper.  It it very seasonal and "spot" driven in nature.  One of the best all around patterns on the lake is to fish Crankbaits, along the I-30 RipRap.  I have caught numerous bass along this area when other fishermen are struggling and throwing spinnerbaits.  The dam is also another good area.  The area around the dam is very deep and rocky.  It takes a methodical person to deep jig this area and catch fish on it during the heat of the summer, so be prepared to lose alot of jigs.  I will mention the Upper River area as that is my favorite area to fish.  Be advised that if you don't not know how to safely navigate to that entrance, I would try and bring someone who does so that you don't ruin a lower unit.  The area can be rewarding if you time it correctly with their seasonal movements.
Lake:  Lavon
Ranking:  Okay
Notes:  I have been fishing Lavon since 1990 as well.  It is an old lake with not alot of history of big bass.  It was not until recently that the TPWD started stocking Florida strain largemouth.  I find the lake to be very fishable at full pool, but those times are far and few between anymore.  Lake is very murky in nature, and most fishing is done in depths in less than 10 feet.  Crackbaits are still my favorite due to its murky nature, but spinnerbaits are also very effective.  Most of the bass I have caught have been on the lower end near the railroad tressel, but have found them shallow in the Club Lake area.
Lake:  Tawakoni
Ranking:  Might as well stay home
Notes:  I have fished this lake a total of 5 times and never caught a bass, although I have loaded the boat with Sandies.  Your guess is as good as mine as where to fish, and what type of presentations to try.
Lake:  Fork
Ranking:  2nd favorite
Notes:  I have fished this lake since they originally opened it in the early 80's.  Although it can be tough at times, it can surprise you at any time.  Favorite area of the lake to fish is the Little Caney, followed by Wolf Creek.  Once you find fish on Fork stay with them.  They are there, so fish them for all they are worth.  Best tactics I have found have been Texas Rigged blue fleck power worms.  Deep water bite on the main lake seems to be the most consistent.  Find you some good isolated submerged trees, then you had better strap the pole to your hand because you are going to get bit.  I try to fish the lake Monday thru Friday, as the lake is way too crowded on Saturday and Sunday..
