Will shoes or booties be needed for the portages, or can one attempt it with your bare feet?

The portage trail will include wood docks and a crushed gravel jogging trail.

Will the paddlers be required to wear PFD's, or will competitor’s just have to carry one in the boat?

By Texas state law, paddlers 12 years of age and under will be required to wear appropriate PFD’s. All other paddlers must have a serviceable and appropriate PFD reasonably accessible in the boat. Inflatable and horse collar PFD’s are acceptable so long as USGS approved.
