U.S. MARATHON CANOE/KAYAK TEAM TRIALS

Racer introduction 9:30 a.m.
Race start, all races start at 10:00 a.m.
START/FINISH: Loop 1 (Mopac Bridge), North shore-Town Lake, Austin, Texas
COURSE: The event will be held on a loop course on Town Lake. The course is set on flat, deep water with possible minimal current. The length will be approximately 25 kilometers and will include 2-4 portages, 75-100 yards in length. The junior course will be 15 kilometers and 2 portages. All portages will use the same portage trail.

VISIBILITY
AND ACCESS: This course is highly visible from a hike and bike trail that follows 90% of the course. The start, finish and all portages can be viewed from this trail
ENTRY FEE: Entry fee is $25.00 per person BY THE PRE-REGISTRATION DATE OF May 10, 2002, $35.00 race day. Race registration will be accepted from 8:00 a.m. till 9:00 a.m. at the registration table. Fees are payable to Marathon Sports Division and all fee revenue over expenses goes to support the Team.

MEMBERSHIP: All participants in Team Trials Classes must hold current USACK membership and show proof
of membership at the time of registration. Competitors unable to verify membership will be
required to purchase membership prior to race entry. Non Trials class competitors will be
required to pay a one day insurance fee of $5 if they are not current USACK members.
AWARDS: Certificates and medals will be presented to the top finishers in each class. If three or more competitors enter the class, awards will be presented to the top three places. CERTIFICATES ONLY, MAY BE PRESENTED AT THE AWARDS CEREMONY TO TOP FINISHERS THAT ENTER AFTER THE PRE-REGISTRATION DATE.
T-SHIRTS: The first 50 entries, based on postmark, will receive a Marathon Team T-shirt.
TEAM TRIALS
CLASSES & BOAT
SPECIFICATIONS: ICF specifications will apply for marathon canoes and kayaks entered in Team Trials Classes.
Senior Team Trials classes are K-1M, K-1W, K-2M, K-2W, C-1, and C-2.
Junior Team Trial Classes are K-1M, K-1W, K-2M, K-2W, C-1, and C-2.
Special Note: While the ICF world championships do not currently offer classes for women's canoe, women may enter ICF canoe classes at the U.S. Marathon Team Trials and may qualify for the U.S. National Team.
Masters classes will be held for masters paddlers having three or more entries in 10 year age brackets beginning at age 40. Entrants in masters classes are NOT eligible for National or World Team selection.

NON-TRIALS
RACING CLASSES:
Non-trials racing classes will be held for the following boats USCA C-1, USCA C-2 (all canoes of 18 ½ feet or less in length), and recreational kayak (all non-racing kayaks). When three or more canoes/kayaks are entered is a given class, awards will be given.
For the purposes of assembling non-trials boat classes, sit-on-tops, surfskis and open canoes propelled with kayak paddles are deemed to be kayaks. Outriggers and open canoes without rudders and propelled with canoe paddles are deemed to be canoes. If there are three or less like boats, the race director will place those boats in the next faster boat class at the race director's discretion.
All entries must be single or tandem, e.g. no boat shall have three or more paddlers.
Non-Trials classes will have separate start times from the Trials classes. Trials racers have the right of way at all times. Interference with boats in a Trials race will bring an immediate disqualification and removal from the course.
FACILITIES: Rest rooms and changing areas will be provided at the starting line.
LODGING: Lodging for racers may be available with local racers on a first come first serve basis. Many motels and a youth hostel are available on the lakeshore or nearby in the area.
