The "Spirit of '03" (Celebrating the Wright brothers first flight in 1903) was finished and test flown in time to be at AirVenture'07! Many volunteers had a part in the building of this Legal Eagle Ultralight. It was started at AirVenture'02 with Jerry Eales as the technical counciler in charge. Jerry passed away before its first filght and his daughter Bonnie took over to see that it was completed and flying. Thanks go to Jerry, Bonnie, & volunteers!
Nice paint job! The plan has been that this is a volunteer built ultralight that will be placed in the EAA Museum. With that in mind, the normal black and then silver coats of paint were left off and this great finish paint design applied. Left: Scott and Bonnie assemble it at AirVenture'07. Below: Nice control stick design (different than plans). Another invation is this substantual throttle control. The hamock like rope seat looks comfortable. Instrumentation in the cockpit consisted of a volt meter. Air speed indicator was a flow meter type mounted to the strut.
Above left: This shows the rear portion of the control assembly. Above right: The bottom rear of the fuselage showing the clamps used to secure the bracing wires for the tail. Below left: Nice tail wheel design. Below right: Elevator horn and fittings.
