The History of Steroids
![]() |
||||||||||||||
Some of the first experimenting with steroids was by the Germans in the 1930's. After initial testing with lab animals, the Germans used steroids on their dogs and even their own soldiers. During World War II, these drugs were helpful to the Germans by keeping their own soldiers healthy, as well as maintaining decent health for the prisoners that they obtained during the war, who often suffered from terible malnutrition. In the 1950's, however, athletes began to catch on. Russian and European weightlifters and bodybuilders began using the substances to pump their testosterone, and it worked. A German doctor named Zeigler was one of the first to prove the effect of improving testosterone on the human body, and by the 1960's Zeigler and other doctors had steroids out on the market. |

This is NOT a picture of Dr. Zeigler. In fact, none were available. However, chances are good that Dr. Zeigler had a coat just like this one.
