For You Blue
A Mini George Harrison Tribute
George Harrison was born 25th February 1943. He was the youngest of the four lads whom he was in a band with. He got his first guitar whn he was 14, but it was a shit one and it took him ages to learn it. He got a better guitar whn his mum saw that he was good at it. He was asked to join The Quarrymen by John Lennon and Paul McCartney  after playing a rock instrumental called "Raunchy" on a bus.

After several failed attempts at being a good band in Britain, The Beetles (as they were called at the time) decided to try their luck in Hamburg. They played at the KaiserKeller in the Reeperbahn (The world's naughtiest street.) They built a solid reputation and were deported for Arson a few months later. Which was handy for George because he was deported a few days previous for being underage.

The Beatles (Swish) became Liverpool's favourite band, then England's, then Britains, then Europe's and so forth.

George's first compostion can be found on the Beatles' second album "With the Beatles." "Don't bother me" was not a the best bit of writing, but he improved from there and became UberSwish in his songwriting skills. "Help" was a milestone for him because he had two of his own compositions on it. Thus setting pattern for future beatles albums.

In the mid 60s he discovered the music of Ravi Shankar and all that other indian stuff and started to learn the Sitar under the tuition of Ravi himself. Utilising his new found skill on the first western pop song to feature this wierd instrument. This was of course "Norwiegan Wood" on The Beatles "Rubber Soul" album. Unfortunatley he started too late in his life to become a Sitar master and stopped practicing as a way of life. He did however cultivate Indian beliefs into his own life and was spiritually forfilling himself all the time.

The Beatles broke up in 1970 after about three years of tense atmospheres and Japanese concept art. George started to come into his own and became a great songwriter, scoring his first A Side with "Something" from "Abbey Road" which went to number one with ease.

"All things must Pass" was one of rock's first triple albums and in my opinion, the best. It featured the track "My Sweet Lord" which George got sued for because of it's uncanny resemblance to the 1963 hit "He's so fine" by the Chiffons. Nevertheless, the song and the album are up in Classic Rock folklore with the rest of them and still remains Georges most critically acclaimed work.

Hot on the heels of "All things must Pass" George organised the "Concert for Bangladesh" for the country of the same name which in many people's opinion is George's finest hour.

Unfortunatley, George's life took a small slope. He divorced his wife Patti and she married Eric Clapton. His commercial success depended on it's quality rather than his Beatle heritage. He remarried, to a woman called Olivia who's maiden name I can't remember and had a son named Dahni (This was not part of the afore mentioned slope, this is just information which i thought was important.)

The death of John Lennon took effect on George and he quit showbusiness, temporarily. In this time he managed to start a relatively successful film company called Handmade films and make his garden perfect. In 1987 he made a triumphant comeback with "Cloud Nine" and became the most sucessful Ex Beatle at the time. He got together with Geoff Lynne, Tom Petty, Bob Dylan and Roy Orbison and formed The Travelling Wilburys who enjoyed chart success with "Handle with care" and "End of the line"

Geoge hid from the limelight again for the first half of the 90s but had to reemerege for the highly sucessful "Anthology" series and also went on a tour of Japan with Eric Clapton. In 2000 he remastered and rereleased "All things must Pass"  and started work on his next album entitled "Brainwashed"

Unfortunately, George Harrison Died on November 30th 2001, but his legend lives on.
"Brainwashed" was released in 2002 and is a beautiful testiment to George as a songwriter and a fitting posthumous release. The concert for George that was organised By Olivia Harrison and Eric Clapton was a huge success and has been released on CD and DVD. Also, the Dark Horse Back Catalogue is to be released on March 15th 2004 when Georgie gets inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame.
