Summer tours in the end, When I started touring in 1983 trying to make every show it was just like you read in the many books about being "on the road", the city's we traveled to were friendly, the cops looked the other way to the tour heads trying to make money selling their wares, the deals were going on, everyone was laid back in parking lots. After the boom of "In the dark" the whole tour changed the DEA was in the lot now, there was nitrios everywhere in the lots ,beer vending hit the lot, people were setting up tents turning the shakedown into a mini mall, their were some of us who just wanted enough for gas, food, and of course " THE TICKET" we just watched as the scene turned uglyer and uglyer, the dead had to bring in their own security force to try and get control back, the cops were beating on heads, I saw people in parking lots throwing bottles at cars, people missing from parking lots, people ending up in ditches because of the fact they knew some of the wrong things, the government poisoning people in the lots, after I met my wife on tour in 89 we both continuide till 91 together full time but it was out of control, my wife was in indiana when the porch went down, we were at Jerry's last show with our first son a month to be born in her belly, my kids now listen to "Uncle Jerry" and love to dance I still spin every sunday night to the dead hour,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but I still have to remember all those that were lost in the parking lots in all those years.
