Hey, this was my first show, and I was still a relative newbie to the Phish scene, well versed in Dead but having just recently picked up Lawn Boy and Farmhouse I wasn't very familiar with the material. So my and my friends drive from New Albany, Indiana  up past Indy to Deer Creek. I'm stoked because my friends have been Phishin' before and they told me it was amazing. I had NO IDEA how awesome it was going to be! So we get there, and me and two of my boys go in on a 10-strip, which was more like a 15-strip, for $35, split it up, and drop. Well, out of the 4 of us that went, only 3 of us had tickets, so my friend Evan, who was tripping billies, had to wait outside for us. Well, we go in, and they begin with CarsTrucksBuses, which like I say, I was unfamiliar with, but the music was so intoxicating and smooth I was soon lost in a dizzying ocean of notes and beats and rhythms which I swam like an Olympic Champion. I danced like I had never danced before, my puppet-like body completely at the mercy of Trey, Mike, Page and Fish. I'm not sure if it was during the first or second set, but it was dark, and a huge glow stick-war was waged towards the middle of the audience, which at first I didn't realize, I couldn't tell if I was hallucinating or if it was real. Well, I was extremely disappointed when the show finally ended, but I was treated to Antelope, which of course, is always a good thing. I'd have to say the highlight of the show, musically speaking, was Loving Cup. The chorus "Oh, what a beautiful buzz..." completely fit in with the way I was feeling. When we exited the amphitheater, we looked for my friend Evan, whom we felt sorry for, because not only did he not get into the show, but he was all alone tripping balls. He was waiting for us, and he apparently had a very fun time, hanging out with fellow heads while listening to the music from outside the gates. The next day, we got busted firing up some funk and the cops took my friends' bud, tix and pipes, that was a bummer <I was asleep!> but all-in-all, it wasn't just a getaway or a concert, it was a religious experience, a mind-expanding journey full of metamorphosis and adventure, and just like Prince Caspian, I was afloat upon the waves. If anybody would like to discuss this show, email me at jackstrawmf@hotmail.com . Well, peace to all, and please enjoy other bands like SCI, moe. and Panic while Phish rests. They deserve it! Peace out,
Matthew D.
