I think the year was 1989. Don't quote me it has been a while. My old boyfriend and I planned a trip to go out and catch a New Years GD show. they are a real treat for those of you who haven't caught one. Being from PA this was going to be a great getaway. So we book the trip and man aren't those New Years Tickets Wild. Nothing like I have ever seen. Anyway we get out to Oakland were the show is We had tickets for the three or four shows prior to new years so we were hanging in Oakland for a while. the night of the new years show we meet this really cool couple who ask us if we need a ride over to the stadium for the show. Of course we say yes. We get in there after waiting in the long line all day, after all it was General admission out there, so anyway we get in and claim our spot for the next couple hours and it turns out, this couple work for the Greatful Dead in one way or another and the next thing I know they are inviting me down to the sound board and I am meeting all kinds of groovy people who I will unfortunetly never remember. to top off the night at around9:00pm we realize that Pennsylvania is now celebrating the new year so what does this couple pull out of their majic bag thanks to the good old people of the greatful dead but champaign , glasses and hats and help us celebrate our new year. Well can you say whoa way to awesome. The best of course I have left for now. Soi it turns midnight in Oakland at the show well do you know what happened next? 3,000 Ballons fell from giant bags in the ceiling. WOOOOOOOOA it was soooooooooo incredible Of course my mind was a little altered but it was really cool you could not see a foot in front of you. We spent the next 10 minutes as Bobby went into I think Not Fade away. I think it was that but as he sang we were busy poping all those ballons so we could see him. My friend at home who was taping it asked me later what all that noise was. But best for last then these guys come down in headress like outfits like natives and arrive bungy cording into the audience it was incredible to say the least. I know this was a long story so those of you who hung out to finish it thanks and just remember be cool to people after all that is what a deadhead is all about. Meeting that couple in this story just put the icing on a great show. Peace and love Karen
