Wednesday, July 17, 2002 What a funny name for this "background" - Impeach. Anyway, it's been awhile. I've started up a planted fresh water fish tank in the middle of May. That's been the new relaxing hobby. I really should get a gym membership but I've been too lazy to even do that. That could be a problem, I suppose. I'm taking the third course in a self-study program sponsored by my company, BCBSA. I was telling people that it's not required for my job but I just remembered that I built it into my professional goals this year so I'll get evaluated on it. Good thing I started studying for it and have until the end of September to take the test. ^_^ Work, overall, has not been fun in the past month. I got assigned to lead a little project that's made my poor head spin. Not that it's a difficult one; it's one with many, many issues. But I do like the acronym we came up with it: STS, Share the ####. Cynthia liked it because it was a positive spin on an annoying project... the whole working togetherness. I had some days where it made me positively depressed (oxymorons, anyone?) so I couldn't see the good in it but I'm glad someone tried to point it out to me. One of my closest friends from U of C got married last Saturday in Korea. I really wish I could've gone but wasn't able to. Sad. He'll be living in Japan for a few years getting his MBA so I'll have to try to visit him once out there. I'm off to Arizona with Yeon at the end of July to visit Hellen. Yeah! Hellen's been living in Chinle serving as a pharmacist for the locals who are mostly the Navajo Indians living on the reservation. Should be lots of fun. We're going to a concert featuring Sheryl Crow, Train and Ziggy Marley the first night we arrive. Woo hoo! There are plans to ride the mesas in a jeep, fly in a Cessna, and shop for turquoise jewelry. My brother will be coming to Chicago in about a month. Tres exciting! The count down begins. July 26-30: Phoenix / Chinle Day #1 Terrible food experience at O'Hare. I ordered a burrito with bad cucumbers so I forced myself to vomit in the plane's bathroom. I felt so much better after that; the woman in our row looked a bit nervous when she overheard me telling Yeon. Hellen and Keith met us at the airport. We finally got to meet one of the characters from Hellen's stories. He was quiet when we first met him but seemed like a nice guy. I was fascinated with the GPS in his car. The Sheryl Crow / Train / O.A.R. concert was fun. It was part of a festival sponsored by Jeep so there were outdoorsy activities and Jeep exhibits, of course. Yeon and I were so tired! The concert ended at 11pm Phoenix time which is 1 in Chicago but 10 in Chinle. At least that's what I think Hellen said. We crawled thankfully into our motel beds and felt like we were in heaven. Day #2 The four of us spent most of the day driving from Phoenix to Chinle. 1st stop: Chandler. Hellen heard about an Asian grocery store out there that's the size of an American supermarket. We doubted its existence but we found it. We even tried the attached restaurant which turned out to be Vietnamese. We had a little misunderstanding. We ordered and the waiter read the order back to us. He thought that I wanted the #52 but I said "15, too" because Yeon had just ordered it. Well, I got my 15 but Yeon got #50! The waiter was miffed that we didn't understand the order he repeated back to us. He ended up changing the order even though he gave us a hard time. It almost spoiled our moods but we survived. Stopped in Flagstaff and ate lunch at a jewel of a place called Beaver Street Brewery. Great gourmet pizzas. The one I ordered had brie, basil, walnuts, roast squash... Yummy! Go to Next Entry or...
