I’m back! A bunch of us did a weekend trek to Louisville, KY, to visit James. Danny, Khanh, Marisol, Ravee, Rob, and I make a fun road trip crew. Tensions were minimal and it was great fun (at least to me) so I’d have to say that it’d rank high on my list of favorite trips. We did a tour of Mammoth Caves which is the largest cave system in the world at 365 miles. We did the Frozen Niagara tour which was pretty impressive since it’s the only tour where you can see stalactites, stalagmites and other various formations but it wasn’t “strenuous” as stated in the brochures. The formations were beautiful! It’s simply amazing to see these flowing sculptures and realize that it took thousands of years to create them. We didn’t see too many creepy crawlers – only a few spiders and cave crickets. Everyone thought that the cave crickets were spiders since they have long spidery legs but one of the rangers corrected us. He was, however, kind enough to joke that, if a cave spider bit me, it wouldn’t be venomous enough to kill me on the way to getting treated. Thanks a lot, buddy! I have to go back to do the Wild Cave tour which would require some wall climbs and also some crawling on your hands and knees for up to 70 feet. That sounds like a fun adventure. James gave us a tour of Humana's headquarter building. No, I didn't snoop for any trade secrets! The building is pretty amazing and actually warranted a tour. The architect was very intentional about the design; he paid homage to several Louisville points of interest like the Ohio River and the bridges. There are also two optical illusions which were interesting. I especially liked James' floor. It's tres modern and open and airy and I want to work there!! But it's just his floor that they're experimenting with so I guess I'll just have to make the suggestion at my company.. Blah. We also saw “The Ring” and I’m definitely regretting it as I sit alone in my creaky one-bedroom apartment with steam shooting out from the radiators (sounds like TV static). There’s a scene that was really cheesy when I sat though it in the theater but is now creeping me out. I knew I shouldn’t have seen it. In fact, when I saw the previews for it, I knew that it’d freak me out so I told myself that I wouldn’t see it. A few people wanted to see it so I figured that I wouldn’t be a party pooper and that I should be fine since we’d be seeing it together. Wrong-o! To divert my paranoid thoughts, I try to focus on the techniques the director used to pull us into the screen and now I’m kicking around the idea of making my future kids see this flick if they watch too much TV. On a lighter note, I'm off this week from work. I have 18 PTO (paid time off) days left in this year's benefit period which ends December 13. I'm only working 9 days this month!! Yeah, poor me. I plan on spending little time in my apartment. I need to take the Camry into an auto body shop to fix the paint scrapes and dents that happened when Dave had it. I felt a new problem today so I'll get that checked out, too. When I accelerated during a sharp turn, it felt like the tires were grinding against something. I tried looking at the inside wall of the tires but no luck so it looks like I get to pay at least $50 for someone to just look at my front tires. I hope nothing's wrong...
