AC Hotel La Linea Finding this hotel was another adventure. I drove us through what appeared to be the center of La Linea. There were no street signs so I had no idea where I was going. We were on a somewhat barren street with an auto shop every 100 feet before we found ourselves in tight residential looking area. Luckily, I pulled over at a pharmacy and at that moment a postman walked in. I asked him for directions and he started to explain where I was supposed to go but I wasn’t getting it so I used my AP Spanish to ask him to draw a map. Looking back, his map was perfect... but I didn’t get that I was supposed to drive towards the Rock to hit a major street. Instead, I made a turn at the second turnabout and found myself still clueless. I pulled over again and asked an elderly woman for directions. She was farsighted so she called over another pedestrian who told us that he’d come back with directions. I let him take our print out which probably was too trusting of me at the time but we were lost with or without it anyway. My faith paid off because he did return after asking someone else for directions. He tried to describe the route but I had to ask him to draw a map. He started to but then thought of another idea. He asked if he could accompany us there. I paused but I was so tired of looking that I agreed. He looked like a nice guy who grew up all his life in a small town. Thank goodness my judgment was right. He led us to the hotel and said good bye. Walking up to the hotel, I was preparing myself to be disappointed. The exterior was very plain and looked almost dilapidated. The modern stylish interior was a shock. Our room was nice. It was one large room with a little lounge area set up. Opening the bathroom window invited in some unpleasant smelling air but that was the only negative about the place. Who would've thought that finding a hotel could be so much fun? |
