This sweet couple are Viki & Tygr: Their owner recently passed away, and they have spent the time since with their breeder. Unless a perfect home is found for them, they are welcome to live with their breeder for the rest of their lives. But BRAT has agreed to help them find a home where they are able to have a bit more house time and individual attention. Viki and Tygr are NOT pet Store Basenjis, nor are they abused in any way shape or form. They are just looking for that special someone who can help them find a new place to spend the rest of their time having fun. Due to their age, and Tygr's personality we need to place them in a house that will welcome 2 very well trained and behaved older Basenjis. We also prefer a house where the parents are home a lot, and due to the fact that Neither Viki nor Tygr have been around little children in a long time we think they would feel most at home in a family without continuous exposure to little children. I have met both Tygr and Viki and I can vouch for their sweet personalities and playfulness. We will not separate Tygr from his daughter Viki. Here is what their foster Mom and breeder has to say about them: Tygr is a 10 year old quarter African import neutered male. He's being placed because his former owner passed away. He's living with one of his breeders now, but really needs more individual attention. He's very healthy and active. You would guess him to be about 6. Tygr is extremely well trained in obedience, but he's a basenji through and through. He loves to lay up against you on the sofa, wants to be touching you, but otherwise doesn't show a lot of affection. He does howl from his yard to greet me when I come home. Tygr is not a very confident dog, so he growls when he is uncertain. As long as things are explained and he doesn't feel threatened, he's fine. He tends to rush other male dogs, growling and snapping, but then if left loose with them, he ignores them and they get along. I've been able to cut toenails, etc. with no problem by going slow and talking to him. Tygr loves to work in agility and obedience, but his owner wanted him retired. I hope his new owner will do tricks with him, train him or give him some kind of job. It makes him very happy. He is crate-trained, house broken and not a chewer. He'll make someone a wonderful companion, but needs a forever home. It was very hard on him to lose his owner. He needs to be placed with Viki, his daughter, so that they have some continuity. Viki is Tygr's 8 year old daughter. She spent the first half of her life with her original owner as a kennel dog and brood bitch. Then she went to live with Tygr and was trained in obedience and agility. She thinks training is ok, but its not her thing and she will be a happy couch potato. Viki looks a little "matronly" due to having puppies, but she's very healthy and has many happy years left. Viki is a very happy affectionate dog. She's easy going and gets along well with most of the other dogs. She loves to wash people's faces. She does like chew toys, but has done no inappropriate chewing. She is crate trained and house broken. Her voice sounds like a kazoo and she does cry some when left alone. Viki will climb/jump solid fences, but doesn't try wire fences. She only tries to leave if left alone for a long period. Viki could care less about working. Tygr had a blast. He did all the obstacles whether I asked him to or not. If we walked by a jump, he jumped it. He really misses training. I hope his new owners will do his "tricks" with him sometimes. He really loves to work. They don't have to do agility, he'll jump over the sofa, do sits and downs, signal exercises, etc. Tygr and Viki are both older and have not been around small children in a while. They should be supervised and given a chance to escape when they get tired. I think they would be happiest with people that are home a lot and don't have children there full time. |
