DAUGHTER OF DARKNESS Alas, there's just one daughter
No, not the lesbian vampire movie, which put me to sleep. (hey, I was sixteen. Not like I was looking for anything other than hot lesbo action at that age.) This one's about a young American woman who journeys to Romania after her mother's death, to seek out her father. Needless to say, since her father's been staying in ROMANIA, vampires are involved. (jeez, are there any humans left in that country?)
The girl's played by Mia Sara, who you might remember from Ridley Scott's Legend, but probably not, since there was only one memorable thing about that movie and she wasn't it. Anthony Perkins may as well be trying to play a Mexican, so unconvincing is his Romanian/British/German accent. Everybody else is Romanian, and may well be big stars overseas, but probably not.
There are a number of great ideas here - particularly the unsettling, icky way in which the vampires suck blood (no fangs here) - but the movie just plods along without much atmosphere, pacing, or characters to care about. Soon enough you'll find yourself irresistibly drawn to your copy of MAXIM, as I was.
Features a cab driver with the biggest nose I've ever seen. |
