LURKING FEAR
More Lovecraftian than the Teletubbies

I'll betcha anything that there's an all-male porno flick out there named "Lurking Queer".

I'll say this for Full Moon - at least they don't drag their movies out for too long. Seventy-five minutes, and you're outta there, unless you insist on watching the "making of" after the credits.

Very loosely based on the Lovecraft story of the same title, this one concerns some mobsters and an ex-con, who have two pieces of a map leading to buried treasure. The treasure, in this case, is a big load of money stuffed inside some dead body. The map leads them to a cemetery in a terrified town that's been haunted by subterranean ghoulies for twenty years, and a small band of monster hunters holed up in the church. Jeffrey Combs, as a constantly drunk doctor, steals the show (as usual - what would happen if we put him in a movie with Ron Perlman?), but the chick playing the ass-kicking brunette babe is pretty foxy. Rggelle, I love ass- kicking brunette babes! This girl obviously took a cue from Linda Hamilton for this movie. She's played by Ashley Lauren, who you might remember from the first three Hellraiser flicks. These days, she's married to some guy named Biff.

One of the best Full Moon movies I've seen - which might not be saying much, because they have yet to come out with any great movies, but it's not like it's saying nothing at all, because they've come out with some quite good ones. The pace is good, the story involving, and the characters, for the most part, appealing. I'm not sure why this one hasn't gotten more attention - perhaps because while its about as faithful to the source material as the much-loved
Re-Animator, it's not as good.

Didn't they plan to "adapt" "Shadow Over Innsmuth"? Mind you, they've claimed to have planned a lot of things...
