MAUSOLEUM Also known as "When Boobs Attack"
When I was a kid, I thought a Mausoleum and a Muslim were the same thing...and I wasn't right about either one. I wish I could remember what I thought they were.
Mausoleum is the worst demonic-possession movie I've ever seen, which probably isn't saying very much because it's a subgenre that I generally don't care about and try to stay away from. Even the infamous "pac-man breasts" scene was a disappointment, since they don't chomp the guy like they were pac-man, they just turn into little heads that bite. What a rip!
A young woman runs off after her mother's funeral and finds herself in the mausoleum at the cemetery, where she meets something ugly in a coffin and psychically sets the undertaker's hair on fire. Twenty years later, she's older and blonder and keeps having fits of demon-inspired violence, getting uglier each time.
That's about it - the only thing to recommend this one for is the pretty good makeup by John Buechler. Some unintentional laughs come in the form of a groundskeeper who apparently has trouble keeping busy (we see him hack away at a chopping block with an axe a lot, turning the top of the block into mulch and therefore rendering it quite useless). (I have to admit, I was surprised that this prominently-featured axe didn't really come into play as the Inconspiculator)
The "silver bullet" against this demon? The "crown of thorns". Is it the crown of thorns, you know, J.C. on the big T? No idea. The demon can be defeated simply by plonking this crown on its head (against which it puts up no resistance). And the score rips off Jaws.
I really hope FOX puts out a "When Boobs Attack" special, and features this and Night Of The Demons 2. What other films might enjoy a spot on this show? |
