Sunset in Africa. This is me and my boy Damien Marzett. We grew up together in Watts and went to the same high school. He plays professional football for the Atlanta Falcons. He's currently here in Africa with me, watching my back and keeping my spirits up. These are children of the Hemba tribe here in Africa. This is part of 'The Flight of the Phoenix' movie set in the desert. I was drawn towards the light coming from the heavens and decided to shoot this dramatic pose. Another shot of me at Nelson Mandella's cell. I did a lot of soul-searching here This is me visiting Nelson Mandella's cell. I was going through all sorts of emotions here. Mandella and Grandson. This is an image with Solly Brendel and I. Solly was a 17 month old boy who was diagnosed with Down Syndrome 2 weeks after his birth. In his short life-time, Solly lived on medication as he was susceptible to flu and chest infections. The boy needed a vital heart operation that would cost $100,000 Namibian. His mother, Anna, baked at home to desperately try to raise money for the operation, but was only able to raise several hundred dollars to help pay for the medication. She placed an ad in the paper, pleading to local businesses to donate financial aid. It was then that actor Dennis Quaid (co-actor with me in the film Flight of the Phoenix) saw the ad and brought it to my attention. We were instantly touched by the story and vowed to help the boy. Dennis, dirtector John Moore, and I donated to the family a total of $150,000 to help pay for Solly's heart operation. Tragically, Solly died two days after the operation. I was heartbroken by the news. I will never forget that beautiful boy and his glowing smile. I'm happy to have these images to help me remember. One more with Solly Hand carved tree in the shape of an elephant in Africa This is me deep in thought, contemplating life, being consumed by Africa.
