The New Stang page will be available at a later date, sorry, Brock.
The 5.0 craze started in 1979, with Ford's first 5.0 Litre V-8 engine in the Mustang was a carbureted 2 barrel version that only produced 130 hp @3400 rpm.  The new engine that was to follow in 1982 was an impovement but only put out 157 hp @4200 rpm.  By 1985, Ford techs had bumped up the horse power a little more with the addition of the new 4 barrel engine which produced 210 hp.  In 1986, Ford moved it's 5.0 engine to the current fuel-injection or EFI system.  This new engine suffered a minor set back of ten horsepower to 200 hp@4000 rpm.  The following year in 1987, along with a body style change in the GT, the new and most powerful 5.0 engine had arrived.  The new engine had 225 hp@4000 rpm.  This new engine also put out 300 lbs./ft of torque at 3000 rpm.  This engine was used through 1992, when in 1993, the last of the Fox bodied 5.0 engines were produced.  The 1993 engines were down considerably in horsepower and torque.  The 1993 5.0 engine had an hp rating of just 205@4200 rpm, and a torque rating of 275@3000 rpm.
The Fox bodied design, which is sometimes used to refer to the 5.0, had two distinct body periods.  The first distinct body styling was from the years of 1979-1986 which can be seen distinctly by its inset headlights.  The second distinct and biggest change was through the years of 1987-1993 in which the headlights became flush with the rest of the car, and the new and Classic GT body design was introduced.  The new GT design was more boxy and now had ground effects, with a spoiler on the hatchback.  The GT's of old looked more like the LX's of the 87-93 period because they had a spoiler similar to the 87-93 LX's.  A great era ended in 1993, the great era the Fox bodied 5.0 Mustang.  These cars are for sure to go down in history as one of the most sought after cars!
