I started with 8 feet of 1.5" steel tubing, 10 feet of 1" both with .125" wall thickness, and 8 feet of 1" with .25" wall thickness. That large thickness really hurts the wallet, but should result in a nice strong set of forks in the front. I doubt that will be doing any unwanted bending. Hopefully it will give enough to provide some shock dampening for the rigid. Here is the frame after the first two days. Most of the second was spent on that stupid jig. I am having a feeling I will be doing a bit of torching in the end to get the frame straight so the bike will ride straight, but I am pretty confident that I have done a good job up to this point. |
