The New Star: Interlude 3

In the year of the Glorious Scarlet Empire 769, the outcaste princess Mnemon Anna wrote in her diary:

6th day of Ascending Water
Another dreary party that I had to ‘host’. I truly am tired of these gatherings and grow ever more glad at the prospect of leaving Nexus. Vaqua is vacuous, as ever, and Yy is showing such contempt for them he is now bringing his work along with him to pass the time. This I would not mind if he did not feel the need to foist them upon me at every opportunity. What desire have I to meet astronomers? It is not even a proper science, and the sooner Yy realises this the better. Were it not for his father’s sake, I would not even bother to feign interest. I have been told it does a wife well to share her husband’s interests, but this really is too much to expect of me. I noted the one I spoke to today did not call himself an astronomer, but rather a “peripatetic healer”. Doubtless too ashamed to admit to his true profession, yes?
Another thing that is beginning to concern me about Yy is the relationship he has with his ‘Confessor’. He brings the woman everywhere with him. I have nothing to say against her profession, but she is clearly not comfortable at our Dos and spends the entire time lurking in the corner. If she is very lucky there may be another of her kind present for her to converse with. I expect it is difficult for them to shake off the many years of Immaculate indoctrination, but still. At least the next generation will be free of their lies. Young Parry, the student of Master Azræl and the first of their breed, seems to be coming along nicely, though he retired shamefully early. Next time, I must test his dancing ability, yes?
Goodnight.
