The Twelfth Hour

Mellissa U Offoha

One, two, three and four

Whisper lightly o’er and o’er

Pick your pride up off the floor

Walk proudly in through the door.

If you obey, goodness replenish

Disobey, goodness diminish

Worsen will, goodness will vanish

Goodness gone, you’ll starve, you’ll famish

Go! Begin, before you’re finished.

Five and six and seven and eight

Don’t go bursting in, pause, wait

Brilliant lights shine ‘round the gate

Do wrong and thee shall seel thy fait.

So, the wrong way you decide

Filled with lechery and envious pride

Now you feel you can just slide

“Take the narrow road.” but you’ve chosen wide.

Sorry, here there’s no free ride

Apologies, there’s no where to hide

Pardon, you say you need no guide?

Condolences, but you’ve been denied.

Looking ugly.  My, oh my

Dying slowly.  Why, oh why

“Frustration” chanting lie, just lie

Life waving bye, goodbye.

Soon you see bright light ahead

Then that bright, white light turns red

Look where your wrong life has lead

Soon you realize you’re dead

Nine and ten now eleven soon twelve

Finding you’re all by yourself

Should have changed when chance had come

Knowing there was someone else

What come around also goes

The burning was so painful that your body froze

You were near yet wrong you chose

It’s the twelfth hour now the doors are closed.
