One of my experiences in the desert was when I was driving
in my honda accord with Pericles Menevisis looking for the
ideal snorkeling spot many miles past 29 palms and in the
middle of nowhere. We became  stuck in the sand and Perry
went to the front of the car to lift while I stuck the gear in
reverse. After revving the car up good I slammed the gear in
and backed out quite fast only to hear a smash. I was suprised
as I had checked the area and there was noone in sight as far
as we could see the horizon. I looked back only to see a big
american car parked right behind us with 4-5 saudis having a
good laugh. Apparently they saw us from far away and
thought they would be of help......
Another experience was when I was again in the middle of
nowhere with several female flight attendants and sunbathing
on the shallow shores of a saltwater lake adjoining the red
sea. All of a sudden as I was about to lay my heavenly body
down on the far side of the girls I heard a succession of
screams. As I retreated from laying back I felt something
scrape my body. Before I could see what it was it had
dissappeared. Apparently it was a sand snake, one of those
things that go sideways. We all were quite lucky that the
snake was more frightened than we were and was just in a
hurry to got far away from us as possible.
