UAE POSTAL ADMINISTRATION
(STAMPS) During the year 1971, the 50 fils stamp of the 1970 definitive issue was overprinted in green by a local printer with “5 FILS” in English and Arabic. The overprint is in green, and two squares block out the original denomination. This stamp was surcharged to meet the seasonal demand for the local greetings card rat and was only on sale from the 8 to 18 December. 1971 (8 Dec.). 50 fils stamp from the 1970 definitive issue overprinted in green. When the British forces decided in 1968 to withdraw from the Gulf, the seven emirates plus Bahrain and Qatar, began serious attempts to unite into some form of federation. The agreement signed in Dubai on February 22, 1968, announcing the creation of the Federation of Arab Emirates, never took place. On December 2, 1971, six states, Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujeira, Sharjah and Umm al Qiwain, formed an independent Union, the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Ras al Khaima joined on February 10, 1972. While arrangements were underway for the printing of a definitive set, the 1970 Provisional Issues was overprinted “UAE” in English and Arabic. The set of twelve values was the last definitive issue of Abu Dhabi. The issue overprinted by National Printing Press in Abu Dhabi. 1972 (Aug.).
