When
you think of California's contributions to music you have to think
of a few things. You must think of beach music -- this fun form of
base musical pleasure made famous by bands like Jan and Dean and the
Beach Boys turned surfers out of everyone from Ohio to Iowa. You
must think of bands like the Greatful Dead and Jefferson
Airplane -- groups that made our acid trips memorable. The punk
scene that came out of California as well as the metal scene is also
touched music in ways that one can hardly fathom. What would possibly
happen if all the great sun loving music makers from Americas
beautiful west coast all got shoved into a blender and puréed? The
only possible outcome would be, no not some kind of nightmare vegan
health shake, but Blottre.
Blottre is the new sound of California. A blender full of the great
musical influences from the sunshine state. In today's Ritalin
choked world were we need constant stimulation Blottre delivers.
They give the listener what they want and more of it than they can
handle. "We adjust to the crowd -- if they want sloppy, we give
them sloppy. If the crowd wants tight they get it. We can be
melodic, aggressive, heavy, fast slow -- whatever," Sloach,
Blottre's vocalist explains. This is a band that anyone with a pulse
is sure to find something to groove to.
Blottre wants to stay with the indie scene as long as she will have
them. They have no plans on going anywhere less its
independent. With the influences of such well know indie
groups like the Misfits and NOFX, Blottre wants to remain DIY no
matter how big they get. Staying true to their fans is a big part of
what Blottre is all about. They connect with their audience in a way
that some indie bands miss. Getting into your crowd is a must if you
want them to get into you. Blottre holds very true to this
idea.
I asked Sloach, Blottre's vocalist, if there where any entertaining
love stories that they could throw our way this being the month that
holiday happens in -- you know which one I mean.
A little love:
This is a little story about how love has affected our band.
In early August, my girlfriend of about three years was getting
tired of my gigging every weekend. I decided that after September, I would retire.
Well before September could even come around, we broke up. This sent me into quite a downward
spiral. I turned into a complete drunk and Blottre was dubbed "the drunkest band in
Fresno." I inevitably became incredibly spiteful towards the band because it was the cause of my broken
relationship. I decided to give the band a break for a little while. We took about a month
off, then just as we were getting ready to get thing going again, my ex and I got back together.
Her and I decided that our differences were quite petty and that our wedding should go on as
planned. This decision also left me believing that the band may put a damper on our new
relationship. I made the choice to break the band up.
Well, my girlfriend and I just got married on January 1, 2001.
Everything is great and the band is just getting things back together. I love my wife more than
anything in the world, but she has learned to respect my passion for music. I hope that our love
lasts forever and I hope that we never confuse our problems again.
