RESOLUTION

Whereas, in the wake of 9/11, measures taken by Congress and the executive branch have eroded the rights of immigrants and have failed to take into account the contributions of immigrants to this country;

Whereas, immigrants were among the victims of the 9/11 attacks

Whereas, immigrants – both lawful and undocumented – are serving or have served in the U.S. armed forces in Afghanistan and Iraq and have sacrificed their lives being killed and wounded in action

Whereas, immigrants contribute their work to grow this economy and their taxes to this government

Whereas, these contributions have not been respected by Congress

Whereas, independence was declared on a cry of “no taxation without representation”

Whereas, the Safe Orderly Legal Visas and Enforcement Act (SOLVE) was introduced in Congress as H.R. 4262 and S. 2381 on May 4, 2004 and would:

Ř     Provide comprehensive and sensible reform of our immigration system;

Ř     Reward hard-working, tax-paying immigrant families who have earned the right to remain in the US and to start down the path to US citizenship;

      Ř     Help reunite families that have been separated for too long as a result of decades-long backlogs in our legal immigration system;

      Ř     Respond to our economy’s needs for workers while treating these workers fairly and protecting them from exploitation

      Ř     Solve many of the problems that plague our immigration system

Be it resolved that, the National Organization of Legal Services Workers, Local 2320, UAW supports the SOLVE Act.
