Leadership Training Workshop
The Annual Leadership Training Conference this past summer was the largest assembly of a Greek organization in history, with 1500 Sigma Chi members meeting.
The Leadership Training Workshop, established in 1947, is a program designed to improve the quality of leadership in the Fraternity. Each August, chapter leaders from Sigma Chi's active chapters spend four days on a college campus, deeply involved in presentations, discussions and problem-solving sessions about chapter operations.

The Leadership Training Board, its faculty leaders, and other experienced alumni plan and conduct the annual Workshop. The Board meets at least twice each year to evaluate the previous Workshop and plan the next one, and is assisted by the director of education and other Headquarters staff members.

A strengthened understanding and appreciation of Sigma Chi in its Fraternity-wide perspective, for each chapter and delegate, is a frequent and substantial by-product of the Workshop experience. The Workshop emphasizes the participation of each chapter's Consul, Pro Consul, Quaestor, Magister and Rush Chairman. Its annual turnout of approximately 1,300 Sigma Chis makes it the largest leadership training session in the Greek-letter world.

The Workshop program is built around nine primary divisions: Consuls, Pro Consuls, Financial Management, Magisters, Recruitment, Emerging Leaders, Tribunes/Alumni Officers, Chapter Advisors and House Corporation Officers. Delegates in these divisions concentrate on subjects pertinent to their chapter or Fraternity involvement. Delegates also attend presentations on leadership, rush, scholarship, pledge programs, finances, public and alumni relations, and Ritual. After Workshop, delegates then serve as teachers in their chapter. The real test of the Workshop's effectiveness begins when the delegates return to communicate key ideas and themes of Workshop to their brothers.

The first Workshop was held in 1947 at Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio, and attracted 215 delegates from 82 of the 108 active chapters. Since that time, it has been held on 19 different campuses, every year except 1955, when it was not scheduled to avoid interference with the Centennial Grand Chapter.

Horizons
Again, Sigma Chi is naturally the organization to lead the way and has created a challenging another leadership program, specifically designed for initiated sophomores who want to improve themselves and their world. Working with professionals who have fashioned leadership programs for Fortune 500 companies including HONDA, Sigma Chi introduced Horizons.

As a participant in Horizons, a select group of young men explore the inner territories of leadership...

How leadership is directly linked to values and character.
How they can incorporate high-minded values into a lifelong practice of leadership.
How they can discover and utilize their full potential.

Horizons participants are guided by a team of carefully selected and intensely trained alumni facilitators, each of which share a commitment to the values of Sigma Chi and self-improvement.

Horizons pushes our Fraternity's brightest to think and act differently. But the experience is just a first step; the beginning of a journey that will change these young men--and in so doing--will change our world.
