Welcome to (and from) Ubiquity!

"In recent times ubiquity has not always been understood -- not even by Sir Boyle Roche, for example, who held that a man cannot be in two places at once unless he is a bird."
--Ambrose Bierce

Ubiquity

Updated on June 30, 2006

I am a senior programmer in the Software Services Group at IBM. The following links will take you to some places that I hope are esoteric enough to have made the journey (and concomitant expenditure of bandwidth) worthwhile.

Zen Masters

Here are some charming (and perhaps enlightening) koans about a bunch of great guys who don't want you to put your hands together for them:

The serious investigator will find many helpful links at the DharmaNet Gateway to Buddhist Resources. On the other hand, if you are just a nerd looking for a good laugh, try the AI koans.

IBM

I like working for IBM. I like being part of a company that really cares about customer satisfaction. A company with traditions, values, and a long history. A company where a man in his forties can still feel young; a company that isn't ruled by some snot-nosed, pimply-faced... oops, getting carried away. Anyway, here are some useful links:

And if you still think the most innovative software comes from Redmond, here's a link to the company that produces it.

Math

If you read the FAQ, you'll know that my background is, by accident, in mathematics. Even though my current work rarely calls for more math than that necessary to divide a lunch bill by four, I enjoy math and math problems. If you do too, check out my current puzzle, or some of these links:

I have also put some mathematical poems on my poetry page. Share and enjoy.

Posthumous Pages

I'm sure both of these men would have had great pages had they lived today:

Calendar Recycling

Literature

I didn't write these. :-) I recommend the first for those of you who want a quick laugh, and the next two for those of you with a little more time on your hands.

If you want more on-line books, try Bibliomania.

Humor

In keeping with my simple web philosophy ("keep the self-indulgent BS off the home page") I have placed some humorous poems of mine on another page. I also maintain a modest archive of humorous material.

Here are some other links good for a few laughs:

More Ubiquity

I used to think that the name "Ubiquity" might be unique, but the web has disabused me of that notion. Here are some other links that feature ubiquity. They have nothing to do with each other, and I have nothing to do with them. You can imagine my disappointment.
