Special notes on the Xenotransplantation lecture:

1) If you feel this lecture is difficult and hard to understand, don't worry. That's exact what I am feeling. But I hope you understand the basic principles for xenotransplantation now: a) producing transgenic animal b)these transgenic genes could supress immnune responses c) these transgenes are targeting at different facets of the immune response to achieve better results.

2)what you need to know

    a) why pig is considered as a good xenotransplantation donor?

    b) what are the major three types of immune rejections (hyperactue rejection........)

    c) what facets are the transgenes targeting at? (the 'a multi-facetted approach to inhibit rejection of xenografts' slide

    d) what is the result of CD 59 transgenic cells, HT transgenic cells and the  cell line with CD59 and HT double transgenic. Do they supress the immune response? How much?

    e) the HT competition model (the "enzyme competition & carbohydrate remodeling" slide). difference and relation with a alpha-Gal knockout?

that's all I could think of. Good luck.
