A Moment With Our Minister
"WATER"
I visited one of our church members in the hospital the other day.
This was not an unusual visit other than what took place during the visit.
The patient in the other bed was in the process of taking a shower.
Adjoining the room was the bath and shower facility. Evidently this
patient had had recent surgery. What got my attention was the amount of water
being used.
There was no recommendation about the limit of water to be used during
a shower. There was no regulation as to the amount of time one had to
take a shower What was happening was that I was having a "flashback".
Having been privileged to make two mission trips to Haiti, I was being
reminded of water. And the scarcity of it in the nation of Haiti. A
shower in Haiti is a REAL luxury. One of my colleagues described Haitian
showers as "drippings". And "the rest of the story" is that one never knows
when the "drippings" are going to stop!
We should thank God every day for the privilege of being able to take a
shower with no fear of the water being cut off. Or that no one is
using a stop watch to time our shower experience. I understand that a Navy
shower on a submarine is limited to five minutes.
There doesn't seem to be mention being made about the water supply in
the Middle East. Water is a high priority there. One of the most
protected places in Israel is the water supply of the Sea of Galilee. Some of
the most sophisticated and guarded equipment in the world is centered
there.
Each of us has no desire to go to hell. One of the reasons is that in
hell there is no water. Jesus' account of the rich man and Lazarus (Luke
16:19-31) tells us of the lack of water. What a terrible reality!
Let us daily thank God for water. Without it ... Want an interesting
experience? Look up the word "water" in the dictionary.
your friend and Pastor, John
