" … the little foxes, that spoil the vines … " (Song of Solomon 2:15b)
I had never thought of the salesman's suggestion. Very simple. I
would
gain, temporarily. But it would be dis-honest.
Many of you have had the same problem. Your vehicle runs well. No
problem starting. And then it happens. You turn the key and nothing
happens. Dead battery. Hopefully, nothing more.
This past Saturday I anticipated the same kind of reliability. Insert
the key. Turn the ignition. Start the vehicle. The vehicle had been
parked at the Toledo Airport for nearly a week. It had run well
through
very hot weather; no problem. But that was not to continue. The
battery
was completely dead.
On the top of the newly purchased battery were the abbreviated twelve
months. Underneath were the years. Simply tear off the month and year
and there was a record of the date of purchase.
Thinking the salesman would take off this combination, I was surprised
when he suggested that I tear off the combination. And then he
suggested
that any month, July to December, would be alright. It didn't matter.
A
very easy way to get a five month extension on the warranty. Just a
"little fox". No big deal.
This part of a verse from the Old Testament was impressed on my mind at
an early age. Many complex prob-lems, with God and His will for us,
get
into trouble by way of the "little foxes".
Might it be that it was the "little foxes" that started Enron,
WorldCom,
and others toward destruction? Just a thought.
In my understanding, the salesman's suggestion is a very good example
of
a "little fox".
Maybe it would be an excellent consideration for each of us to check if
the devil has been working in our lives in the "little fox" approach.
Let God help us with the "little foxes" in our lives before they become
"full-grown foxes".
your friend and Pastor, John
