A MOMENT WITH OUR MINISTER

Rev. John Moore

Dec., 2000

It was just a dandelion, but a significant gift!

This month is the time when gifts are wrapped and exchanged. Stunningly beautiful wrapping paper will be used. Some think, including my family members who have vocalized their opinions, that I have a problem when unwrapping gifts. My problem is that I don't like tearing that beautiful wrapping paper.

Gifts are given to be meaningful. Consequently, the cost of the gift is not the priority. Some have the feeling that unless the gift costs "x" numbers of dollars, it loses its meaning. The feeling is, the more spent, the more significant. How untrue! Our gifts should be a part of us and that is where the gift of the lone dandelion becomes significant to me.

"The funeral was over. We were at the cemetery for the committal of the body to the ground. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust followed by prayer. As has been my custom, I was standing by the casket while the family & friends were preparing to leave. Fall weather was just around the corner, but the grass was still green and yellow dandelion were still blooming. A four year old great-grandson strolled over to a dandelion, picked it up and wanted to put it on great-grandmother's casket. His final gift to a wonderful person in his life.

I stooped down, picked him up and assisted him as he gave his parting gift, a gift from his heart. For me, it surpassed all of the bought flowers. It was only a lone dandelion, but a gift of love from a heart of love and that is significant!"

May you and I give our gifts this Christmas in the spirit of Him who gives us every "good and perfect gift", from His heart of love.

Ellie joins me in our appreciation of each of you, for who you have been to us, with the gift of yourself. Thank you.

We wish each of you a joyous Christian Christmas. God Bless.

your friend and Pastor, John
