A MOMENT WITH OUR MINISTER

A MOMENT WITH OUR MINISTER

Following an appointment with a colleague, I drove by the Christ Reformed Church in Baffle Creek. On the Church marque were words which caught my eye.

Hopefully I will never forget the words (quote). They have a wealth of meaning and if followed, can make a big difference in life.

These are the words: "A pessimist needs a kick in the can'ts."

In consultation with 'one of Webster's Dictionaries, this is what I found. 1. a) Philosophically, the doctrine of belief that the existing world is the worst possible. b) the doctrine of belief that the evil in life outweighs the good. 2. the tendency to expect misfortune or the worst outcome in any circumstances; practice of looking on the dark side of things.

It doesn't take a stretch of the imagination to realize that "can'ta" fit in very well with being a pessimist Most of us don't need some one help us understand there are circumstances in life which could very well cause a person to become a pessimist.

The persons we admire are those who, having been a recipient of a negative circumstance (5), acknowledge the reality of the circumstance and use the power at their command, to rise above the circumstance victoriously.

And isn't that the benefit of being a follower of Chriat? Of all peresons, the Christian should not yield to temptation of pssimism. Please know that I am not setting myself up as "exhibit A" in this kind of scenario.

You remember the life of Jesus when "a woman of Canaan" came to Him who had a demonized daughter. Jesus never even answered her cry. His disciples urged Him to "send her away". How would you respond to Jesus if He reminded you that it was not proper to take the children's food and throw it to the dogs? What an answer this dear woman gave to Jesus!

"Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their master's table". What a response Jesus gave to the woman! "0 woman, great is your faith: be it unto you even as you will".

Did she ever "kick the can'ts" out of pessimism!

My prayer is that God will help you and me to follow the woman of Canaan's example in 2001. AMEN! your friend and Pastor, John
